Leprechaun is a classic horror film that is so terrible it's fantastic. The narrative is ridiculous, the acting is ridiculous, and the visual effects are hilariously terrible. But, in the end, it all comes together to make a pleasant and amusing picture. Warwick Davis plays the leprechaun well, while Jennifer Aniston performs admirably in her feature picture debut. If you like campy horror films, then Leprechaun is a must-see. Just don't expect to be afraid; this film will most likely make you chuckle rather than scream.

The depiction of a malicious leprechaun that was done by Warwick Davis has become the stuff of legends. In the movie, the leprechaun is under the impression that a group of people have taken his pot o' gold. He gathers all of his wits and resources to pursue and capture them in the act of hunting. In the meanwhile, the family is looking far and wide for the gold in an effort to appease the leprechaun and prevent him from causing them any more trouble. Because of Davis's spine-chilling and memorable performance, "Leprechaun" is considered to be among the very greatest horror movies ever made.

After visiting his birthplace Ireland in 1983, where he kidnapped a leprechaun and stole his pot of riches, Dan O'Grady returns to his home in North Dakota. O'Grady realizes after burying the treasure that the wicked leprechaun had tracked him home and killed his wife. O'Grady subdues the leprechaun's abilities and imprisons him inside a container using a four-leaf clover. He had a stroke before he has the chance to burn him.

Ten years later, J. D. Redding and his teenage daughter Tory rent the O'Grady farmhouse for the summer. With the aid of contract workers Nathan Murphy, his 10-year-old brother Alex, and their dimwitted friend Ozzie Jones, the farmhouse is being repainted. While scouring the basement, Ozzie overhears the leprechaun's cry for help and misidentifies him as a child. By pulling the four-leaf clover from the box, he unleashes the leprechaun. Ozzie is informed by the leprechaun that he is an Irish cobbler who emigrated to America in quest of his riches. After failing to convince others that he had seen a leprechaun, Ozzie spots a rainbow and follows it in hopes of finding a pot of gold. Alex follows Ozzie out of worry for his well-being. A bag holding 100 gold coins magically appears before Ozzie. After Ozzie examines the gold and mistakenly swallows a coin, they conceal it in an ancient well in an attempt to cure Ozzie's brain.

The leprechaun at the farm tricks J. D. into falling into a trap by pretending to be a cat, biting and hurting his hand. The leprechaun rides a tricycle after Tory and the others bring him to the hospital. When Alex and Ozzie travel to a pawn shop to check the purity of the gold, the leprechaun murders the owner, Joe, for taking his gold and polishes Joe's shoes before escaping. On his journey back to the farmhouse, the leprechaun makes himself a little go-kart and is stopped by a policeman for speeding. The leprechaun pursues the police officer into the woods, where the leprechaun ultimately kills the cop. The leprechaun goes back to the farmhouse and looks for his treasure while shining every shoe he sees. The gang heads back to the farmhouse after dropping J. D. off at the hospital. When Nathan investigates outside after finding it looted, a leprechaun-set bear trap injures him. Outside, the group attacks the leprechaun and beats him with rocks and clubs.

As soon as they find a gun in the house, the leprechaun is ambushed and shot many times. They attempt to leave the property after it becomes clear that it won't work, but the leprechaun has already wrecked the engine of the vehicle. After crashing the car with the go-kart, the leprechaun causes the group to be in fear until Ozzie reveals to the leprechaun that he and Alex found the treasure chest. Tory is the one who descends into the well and retrieves the bag, which she subsequently presents to the leprechaun. They make their way to the hospital, certain that the worst is behind them. During the process of counting his fortune, the leprechaun learns that he is short one coin since Ozzie ate it. He threatens them since he is under the impression that they (blog) have tricked him, but Ozzie stops him by explaining that O'Grady had a stroke and was sent to a nursing home. The group is able to distract the leprechaun's attention when they throw dirty shoes at him. As a result, the leprechaun is compelled to go shine the shoes while Tory gets into her vehicle and drives away. Tory travels to the home in order to get information on how to kill the leprechaun.

At the nursing home, the leprechaun is acting under the guise of O'Grady. Tory is pursued by the leprechaun until they reach an elevator. The leprechaun then throws O'Grady's mutilated body down the elevator shaft as Tory flees. Before he passes away, O'Grady gives her the warning that the only way to kill the leprechaun is with a four-leaf clover, which just so happens to grow in a vast area outside the farm. O'Grady's death puts an end to the conversation. Tory returns to the farmhouse in an attempt to locate a clover, but the leprechaun ambushes her there, and Nathan and Ozzie are required to rescue her. During his pursuit of the last gold coin, the leprechaun suffers serious (blog post) injuries while trying to retrieve it from Ozzie, who later admits that he swallowed it. Before the leprechaun can kill Ozzie, Alex takes a four-leaf clover that Tory found, fastens it to a wad of gum, and shoots it into the leprechaun's mouth. This causes the leprechaun to disintegrate and disappear. In spite of the fact that it had fallen into the well, the skeleton of the leprechaun managed to come out and proclaim, "I want my gold." After Nathan drives the leprechaun back into the well, he uses gasoline to light both things. When the police arrive, Tory is able to get back together with her father, get married to Nathan, and have a kid with him. While the authorities look through the remains of the well, the leprechaun makes an oath that he won't give up until he recovers every last piece of his fortune.

After the producers insisted on making the movie scarier so it would appeal to older audiences, several scenes had to be reshot.

It's well-known that George Lucas had a hand in casting Warwick Davis in Willow. What's less well-known is the reason why. Apparently, Davis was under contract to Lucas, and Lucas had to give permission for him to appear in the movie. As a result, he was given a "special thanks" credit at the end of the film. This little-known fact makes the movie even more fascinating for horror movie fans. It's yet another example of Lucas's influence on popular culture.

Originally, the leprechaun was supposed to escape back to Ireland. But there was one problem: the Irish actor who was playing the leprechaun, Warwick Davis, did not have a work visa. In order to film the final scene, Davis needed to obtain a visa in just three days - an impossible task under normal circumstances. Fortunately, Vice President Dan Quayle's office was able to speed up the process and Davis was able to finish filming on schedule. For his efforts, Quayle received a "special thanks" credit at the end of the movie.
